The Makings of A Real Movement

11/11/201811/10/2018 / othalafehu / 12 Comments

The concept of FIRE (Financial Independence / Early Retirement) certainly seems to be sweeping the nation. One need only look around as FIRE related articles creep into the mainstream media. While still in its neophyte stages as far an an economic theory/lifestyle goes, there does seem to be consensus that it is a 'movement', dare … Continue reading The Makings of A Real Movement

The Simple Plan to Financial Security

07/24/201811/21/2020 / othalafehu / 10 Comments

My blog is not really a blog for beginners. There are plenty out there that cater to personal finance newbies. This is more a MY PERSONAL finance journey, the reader comes along for the ride. I did decide it was probably a good idea to include at least one basic all encompassing 'How to' Achieve … Continue reading The Simple Plan to Financial Security

Why We Fight

11/06/201712/04/2017 / othalafehu / 6 Comments

If you have never sat down and watched the old 'Why We Fight', you should carve out some time and pop some popcorn. Heavy on the propaganda of wartime America, it is a fascinating look at our stance on involvement in World War II. I keep thinking of these videos and it inspired me to … Continue reading Why We Fight

Tuesday, 08/08/17 was a first for my little blog. I submitted a guest post for the first time. Fritz, from RetirementManifesto has been helpful and active in this scene since way before my time. When we are neophyte bloggers, we all hear tell about how helpful this community niche is. And that if we stick … Continue reading My First Guest Post: 3 Enemies of FIRE

Viva la Revolution!

06/12/201707/24/2018 / othalafehu / 9 Comments

I get the modern American economy, I really do. We were all peasants back in the day and figured out that with our own hard work and the changing industrial/free market/capitalist system,  we could climb the ladder and improve our lives. It worked well too. The growth of the American middle class is unprecedented in … Continue reading Viva la Revolution!

WHY OTHALAFEHU?

The RUNES are the ancient writing system of the Germanic peoples handed down to man from the pagan god Odin.

Othala is the rune for ancestral home, the hearth, and sacred enclosure. Fehu represents our power and possessions gained by own hand, the measure of our earned wealth.

And so my Personal Finance / Net Worth / Dividend Portfolio / Secret Journal was born.
