No legal career comes without regrets in various forms! One mistake I made out of naivety I feel like I can share to shed some insight into the life of a Public Defender. Thursday afternoons were for something called 'Hooker Call'. 'Hooker Call' was pretty much what it sounds like. A giant room filled with … Continue reading Keep Those Crimeside Tales Coming!

If your blog is going to thrive and grow, it has to at some point break out of its original parameters. I have decided to add some context(crime stories) from my days as a criminal defense attorney with the public defender. Some details have been changes to protect involved parties. White Hat/Black Hat

I have worked as both a public defender and as a prosecutor. While I consider them to be two sides of the same coin, the world does not. The jobs are actually very different. One answers to the public, the other to the individual. A prosecutor builds cases, block by block. Cementing together the elements … Continue reading White Hat/Black Hat

Soldier in a Righteous Army

05/15/201811/12/2020 / othalafehu / 6 Comments

I started out my adult life firmly rooted in the underbelly of society. It seemed a natural fit for me to stay on that side of the tracks even after I became an official member of society. The Cook County (ie. Chicago) Public Defenders Office is a trip. I loved it. The office has over … Continue reading Soldier in a Righteous Army

WHY OTHALAFEHU?

The RUNES are the ancient writing system of the Germanic peoples handed down to man from the pagan god Odin.

Othala is the rune for ancestral home, the hearth, and sacred enclosure. Fehu represents our power and possessions gained by own hand, the measure of our earned wealth.

And so my Personal Finance / Net Worth / Dividend Portfolio / Secret Journal was born.
